The best tools for transferring playlists from one music service to another are TuneMyMusic for most browser-based moves, Soundiiz for complex library management, FreeYourMusic for native desktop and mobile apps, SongShift for iPhone and iPad, and Playlisty for Spotify-to-Apple-Music imports. Built-in Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Spotify transfer tools are preferable when they cover your route.

The right choice depends on the destination, the type of library data you want to copy, the device you use, and whether the move is one-time or ongoing. Native tools can be simpler, while third-party services usually offer broader service coverage, exports, rematching, and synchronization.

Key takeaways

  • TuneMyMusic is the best default browser tool for most major-service transfers, with a free allowance of up to 500 tracks before Premium is needed for unlimited transfers and additional features.
  • Soundiiz’s free plan transfers one playlist at a time with a limit of 200 tracks per playlist, while paid plans add batch operations, exports, library management, and synchronization.
  • FreeYourMusic supports Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, and its free tier allows up to 600 songs before Premium is required for unlimited moves.
  • SongShift is the most focused choice for iPhone and iPad users, listing 14 services, 11 of which can receive transfers.
  • Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Spotify offer built-in or embedded transfer routes for selected migrations, but native workflows have important exclusions and generally do not synchronize later changes.
  • A transfer copies playlist or library metadata between catalogs; it does not move music files, transfer subscription ownership, or guarantee an identical recording for every track.

Which tool is best for transferring playlists from one music service to another?

Choose TuneMyMusic for a normal browser-based move between major streaming services. Choose Soundiiz if you need favorites, albums, artists, exports, batch processing, or several synchronization jobs. Choose FreeYourMusic for a native app across desktop and mobile, SongShift for an iPhone or iPad workflow, and Playlisty for a focused Spotify-to-Apple-Music import.

Before choosing a third-party service, check whether the destination already supports your route. Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Spotify each provide a first-party or embedded transfer path for some migrations. A native route is usually the simplest starting point, while a third-party tool is more useful when the built-in route excludes a library type, does not support the source service, or lacks synchronization.

FreeYourMusic app People who want one native app across computer and phone Up to 600 songs on the free tier; Premium unlocks unlimited moves and additional features Playlists, liked songs, albums, followed artists, synchronization, cloud backup, rematching, and matched, missing, or failed status reporting Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android; supports more than 20 services
SongShift for iPhone iPhone and iPad users who want a focused transfer app Basic transfers are free; Pro starts at $6.99 per month according to the cited FAQ Playlists, albums, and songs; Pro adds SpeedMatch, batch setup, ongoing sync monitoring, file transfers, and unlimited service connections Native iPhone and iPad workflow; 14 services are listed, with 11 destination-capable services
Playlisty for Apple Music Spotify playlists, liked tracks, albums, or artists going specifically to Apple Music One-time Pro purchase; the cited listing does not state an amount in the research dossier Direct copying into Apple Music, match preview and amendment, and Siri Shortcuts synchronization Apple-device-specific utility; treat it as a route-specific importer rather than a universal transfer platform

Prices, free limits, supported services, and regional availability can change. Soundiiz’s own pages currently present different service totals—more than 40 on the pricing page and 45 on the transfer page—so verify the destination and plan details before starting a large migration.

Which first-party transfer routes should you try first?

Start with the destination service’s own importer when your source and destination match a supported route. Native tools reduce the number of separate accounts involved, but native availability does not mean that every playlist, file, podcast, or later edit will transfer.

Migration Native route What the route transfers Important exclusions or limits
Another service to Apple Music Apple Music’s transfer workflow on iPhone, iPad, Android, and the web Saved music and playlists, with the exact content depending on the source service An Apple Music subscription is required; unmatched music can be reviewed and replaced with alternate catalog versions; the source service is not altered
Apple Music to YouTube Music Apple’s Data and Privacy transfer page Playlists created by the user Does not transfer music files, curated playlists, non-owned shared playlists, playlist folders, podcasts, audiobooks, or user-uploaded audio; later edits do not synchronize
Another service to YouTube Music YouTube Music’s in-app Transfer playlists from other apps workflow Playlists, albums, artists, and tracks Podcasts cannot be imported or exported through this workflow; later changes do not synchronize; some source songs may not exist in the YouTube Music catalog
YouTube Music to Apple Music Google Takeout’s one-time copy route User-created YouTube Music playlists You cannot select only a subset; curated playlists, liked-music playlists, non-owned collaborative playlists, podcasts, uploaded or private content, and tracks absent from the destination catalog are excluded
Another service to Spotify Spotify mobile app: Library > Import your music from other apps Tracks or playlists selected after authenticating with the source service The documented experience is mobile-focused and uses TuneMyMusic; route coverage and matching still depend on the source and destination catalogs

Apple Music imports from other services

Apple Music offers a transfer workflow for bringing saved music and playlists from another service into Apple Music on iPhone, iPad, Android, and the web. Apple’s transfer documentation says an Apple Music subscription is required, the exact transferable content depends on the source, and unmatched items can be reviewed and replaced with alternate catalog versions.

Apple’s workflow is a copy rather than a destructive move. The source library remains available, so you can inspect the Apple Music result before cancelling the old service. If Apple Music does not support the exact source or library type you need, TuneMyMusic, Soundiiz, FreeYourMusic, or SongShift may provide a broader route.

Apple Music to YouTube Music

Apple’s separate Apple Music-to-YouTube-Music route is available through the Apple Data and Privacy transfer page. The route copies playlists created by the user, but Apple explicitly excludes music files, curated playlists, non-owned shared playlists, playlist folders, podcasts, audiobooks, and user-uploaded audio.

The Apple-to-YouTube-Music route is one-time only. Changes made after the copy do not remain synchronized, so users who are still actively editing playlists should either repeat the transfer when needed or use a third-party synchronization feature.

YouTube Music imports and exports

YouTube Music’s in-app transfer workflow can import playlists, albums, artists, and tracks from another service while leaving the original music on the source service. Google’s YouTube Music instructions state that the workflow does not automatically synchronize later changes, cannot import or export podcasts, and may leave songs unmatched when the YouTube Music catalog lacks them.

Google also documents a Google Takeout route for copying YouTube Music playlists to Apple Music. The Takeout process is a single copy, cannot transfer only selected playlists, and omits curated playlists, liked-music playlists, non-owned collaborative playlists, podcasts, uploaded or private content, and unavailable destination tracks.

Spotify’s in-app importer

Spotify’s documented mobile path is Library > Import your music from other apps. The workflow asks you to authenticate with the source service and then select the tracks or playlists to import. Spotify’s support documentation identifies TuneMyMusic as the service powering the importing experience.

Spotify’s in-app option is convenient when Spotify is the destination, but the underlying transfer remains dependent on catalog matching. Users who need an export file, an entire library, daily synchronization, or a route not exposed in Spotify’s mobile importer should use a broader tool directly.

How do the major third-party tools differ?

Why is TuneMyMusic the best default for most people?

TuneMyMusic is the most sensible first choice for a typical browser-based transfer between major services. TuneMyMusic supports Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, TIDAL, Qobuz, SoundCloud, Beatport, Pandora, and other platforms; users can choose selected playlists or transfer an entire library.

TuneMyMusic’s free tier allows up to 500 tracks. TuneMyMusic’s plans page lists Premium for unlimited transfers and additional features. The service also supports CSV and TXT export, unmatched-track reports, optional daily auto-sync, and cloud backup according to the product information supplied for this comparison.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose TuneMyMusic when the job is mainly “copy my playlists from service A to service B.” Choose another option when the job is library administration, deep export work, or a native app requirement. Even when Spotify presents TuneMyMusic inside its own mobile importer, TuneMyMusic remains a third-party service, so review the authorization screen and permissions before connecting accounts.

When is Soundiiz better than TuneMyMusic?

Soundiiz is better when a transfer involves more than playlists. Soundiiz can handle playlists, favorite tracks, albums, artists, and broader library data, and it adds tools for sorting, deduplication, joining playlists, batch operations, exports, and synchronization.

Soundiiz’s free plan allows one playlist at a time with up to 200 tracks per playlist. Soundiiz’s pricing page lists Premium at $5 per month or $39 per year and Creator at $9.50 per month or $75 per year; prices are page values that should be rechecked before purchase. Soundiiz’s export formats include CSV, TXT, XSPF, JSON, XML, and URL.

Soundiiz describes transfers as copy operations: the source playlist and library are not deleted or modified. Soundiiz matching still depends on source metadata and destination-catalog availability, so a copied library may contain missing or alternate tracks. Soundiiz is the strongest choice for curators who want to maintain several playlist relationships instead of performing one isolated migration.

Is FreeYourMusic the best native cross-device option?

FreeYourMusic is the strongest app-first alternative for readers who want the same transfer tool on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. The company says the app supports more than 20 services and uses each service’s official sign-in flow.

The FreeYourMusic download page lists a free tier for up to 600 songs and Premium for unlimited moves. FreeYourMusic preserves playlist titles and order and can transfer liked songs, albums, and followed artists. Synchronization and cloud backup are also available as supported features.

FreeYourMusic reports matched, missing, and failed items and provides rematching tools. That status information is useful because a successful transfer command does not prove that every source track has an identical destination match. Choose FreeYourMusic when device coverage matters more than a browser-only workflow or when one native app needs to serve both a phone and a computer.

When should an iPhone or iPad user choose SongShift?

SongShift is particularly suitable for iPhone and iPad users who want a simple source-to-destination workflow. SongShift’s FAQ lists Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Amazon Music, TIDAL, Deezer, SoundCloud, Pandora, Napster, Qobuz, Audiomack, Last.fm, Discogs, and Hype Machine.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

SongShift’s FAQ lists 14 supported services; 11 can receive transfers, while Last.fm, Discogs, and Hype Machine are source-only. The basic app is free, and Pro starts at $6.99 per month according to the cited FAQ. Pro features include SpeedMatch, batch setup, ongoing synchronization monitoring, file transfers, and unlimited service connections.

SongShift does not modify the source library. SongShift is a better fit than a general browser tool when the transfer will be managed mainly from an iPhone or iPad, but SongShift is less platform-universal and has a narrower service list than TuneMyMusic or Soundiiz.

What is Playlisty best at?

Playlisty is a narrow Apple Music utility rather than a universal playlist-transfer platform. The Playlisty for Apple Music listing describes copying Spotify playlists, liked tracks, albums, and artists into Apple Music, previewing matches, amending playlists before copying, and using Siri Shortcuts for synchronization.

Playlisty is worth considering when the entire task is specifically Spotify to Apple Music and a one-time Pro unlock is preferable to a recurring subscription. The cited App Store listing does not establish broad support for every source and destination combination, so choose TuneMyMusic, Soundiiz, FreeYourMusic, or SongShift for a more varied migration.

How should you transfer a playlist safely?

  1. Choose the destination first. Confirm that the destination supports the source service and the content you actually care about. A destination subscription may be required; Apple Music explicitly requires a subscription for its inbound transfer workflow.
  2. Inventory the source library. Note the playlists, liked tracks, albums, artists, and shared or collaborative playlists that must survive the move. Native tools can exclude curated, non-owned, collaborative, private, uploaded, podcast, or folder content.
  3. Use the official sign-in or authorization flow. Start from the destination’s own importer or the transfer tool’s normal connection screen. FreeYourMusic says that it uses each service’s official sign-in flow. Review the account permissions and privacy policy before approving access.
  4. Run a small test first. Transfer one short playlist before starting an entire library. A test reveals whether the destination recognizes the source, whether the selected content type is supported, and how alternate versions are handled.
  5. Review the match report. Do not assume that a completed job means every track transferred. Check unmatched, missing, failed, or alternate-version results and use rematching or manual replacement where available.
  6. Compare the destination with the source. Check playlist names, track order, item counts, albums, artists, and liked music. Keep the source library intact until the destination has been verified.
  7. Set up synchronization only if you need it. A one-time copy is not an ongoing mirror. Configure a supported sync feature on TuneMyMusic, Soundiiz, FreeYourMusic, or SongShift if later edits must be propagated.
  8. Cancel the old service last. Keep the source subscription active until the destination has the content you need and all important unmatched tracks have been resolved.

What transfers, and what does not?

A playlist transfer copies metadata and catalog references, not ownership of the underlying music. The process does not move downloaded music files between streaming services, transfer a subscription from one company to another, or guarantee that the destination contains the same recording.

Depending on the tool and route, transferable data may include playlists, track selections, playlist names, order, liked songs, albums, followed artists, and favorites. FreeYourMusic specifically describes preserving playlist titles and order and transferring liked songs, albums, and followed artists, while Soundiiz supports broader library data and exports.

Catalog matching is the central limitation. A destination service may not have an exact equivalent for a source track, so the result can contain an unmatched item or an alternate catalog version. Apple Music provides a review-and-replace workflow for unmatched music; YouTube Music warns that some songs may be unavailable; FreeYourMusic labels items as matched, missing, or failed and provides rematching tools.

The source normally remains intact. Soundiiz, SongShift, Apple, and Google describe their applicable workflows as copies or transfers that do not delete or modify the source library. That safeguard is useful, but it does not remove the need to review permissions and the final destination library.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why do transferred tracks go missing or change version?

Transferred tracks go missing or change version because the receiving service matches source metadata against its own catalog rather than importing the original audio item. Catalog availability and metadata differences can prevent an exact match.

Common visible outcomes are an unmatched track, a missing track, or an alternate version of the same song. An alternate version may be a different catalog entry rather than the exact source recording, so inspect live, remastered, explicit, clean, and other similarly named results before accepting the final playlist.

Use the tool’s review process instead of deleting the source immediately. Apple Music allows unmatched items to be reviewed and replaced with alternate catalog versions. FreeYourMusic provides matched, missing, and failed states plus rematching tools. Soundiiz describes matching as dependent on metadata and destination-catalog availability.

Does a playlist transfer stay synchronized?

A one-time playlist transfer does not stay synchronized unless a separate synchronization feature is configured. Apple and Google explicitly state that later edits do not automatically update the other service in their native transfer routes.

Soundiiz, TuneMyMusic, FreeYourMusic, and SongShift offer synchronization features on applicable plans or product tiers. Synchronization is useful for a person who continues editing playlists in the source service, but it can also propagate unwanted changes or duplicates. Decide whether the source or destination is the master library before enabling it.

What privacy and account-permission issues matter?

Review the authorization screen, requested permissions, and privacy policy before connecting any streaming account to a third-party transfer tool. Use the service’s normal official sign-in flow where available, and disconnect an old integration when the migration is complete if the account settings provide that option.

Google warns that third-party providers are responsible for their own services and that Google does not guarantee their quality or resolve disputes. Google’s transfer guidance is therefore a reason to evaluate the provider rather than an endorsement of every third-party route.

Source preservation is a useful safety feature, but source preservation is not the same as privacy protection. A transfer can leave the original playlist untouched while still requiring account authorization, so readers should connect only the services needed for the specific migration and avoid granting unrelated access.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Final recommendation

For most people moving a few playlists between Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, TIDAL, Qobuz, or similar services, start with the destination’s built-in importer and then use the TuneMyMusic transfer tool if the native route is unavailable or too limited. Select Soundiiz for complex library administration and synchronization, FreeYourMusic for a cross-device native app, SongShift for iPhone and iPad, and Playlisty for a narrowly defined Spotify-to-Apple-Music job.

Whatever tool you choose, treat the result as a catalog-matching copy. Test one playlist, inspect unmatched and alternate tracks, keep the source intact, and do not cancel the old subscription until the new library is complete.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: TuneMyMusic is the best general-purpose choice, Soundiiz is best for power users, FreeYourMusic is best across desktop and mobile, SongShift is best for iPhone and iPad, and Playlisty is best for a focused Spotify-to-Apple-Music import. Native Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Spotify workflows are worth trying first when they support the exact route.
