Seattle legal tech startup Supio lands $60M to help lawyers streamline data analysis through a $60 million Series B announced April 30, 2025. Led by Sapphire Ventures, the round gives Supio $91 million in disclosed funding to build specialized AI for personal-injury and mass-tort firms processing medical and litigation records.

Supio is positioning the financing around a specific legal workflow, not a general-purpose research chatbot. Its software is designed to turn medical records, bills, depositions, discovery materials, expert reports, and other unstructured case documents into searchable facts, timelines, calculations, contradiction flags, and draft-ready work product.

Key takeaways

  • Supio announced a $60 million Series B on April 30, 2025, led by Sapphire Ventures with Mayfield and Thomson Reuters Ventures participating.
  • The Series B brought Supio’s disclosed total funding to $91 million, including a $25 million Series A announced when the company emerged from stealth in August 2024.
  • Supio focuses on plaintiff-side personal-injury and mass-tort firms rather than offering a broad legal-research assistant for every practice area.
  • The platform’s stated workflows include medical chronologies, bill and lien analysis, case economics, document search, deposition analysis, contradiction detection, demand drafting, and litigation preparation.
  • Supio and its customers report productivity and business results including up to 75% less case-preparation time, but the reviewed sources do not provide independent benchmarks for those claims.

What does Supio’s legal-AI platform actually analyze?

Supio analyzes the document-heavy evidence found in plaintiff litigation. The company describes a platform that organizes records and extracts facts from medical files, bills, liens, discovery materials, depositions, witness statements, expert reports, and related case documents.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The practical value proposition is structured evidence, not merely generated prose. A personal-injury firm may need to reconstruct a patient’s treatment timeline, reconcile invoices from multiple providers, identify a discrepancy between testimony and a medical record, assess damages, and assemble a demand package. Supio’s product positioning targets those connected tasks.

Supio’s stated product areas include:

  • Case intake: organizing information gathered at the beginning of a potential claim.
  • Medical chronologies: extracting treatment events, providers, diagnoses, procedures, and dates into a more usable timeline.
  • Medical-bill and lien analysis: helping teams review charges, liens, and other financial records connected with a claim.
  • Case economics: supporting analysis of damages and the financial dimensions of a matter.
  • Document search and summarization: finding relevant information across large collections of case files.
  • Deposition and witness-statement analysis: surfacing relevant testimony and possible inconsistencies.
  • Contradiction and discrepancy detection: flagging statements or records that require attorney investigation.
  • Drafting: assisting with demand letters and other litigation-related materials.
  • Litigation and trial preparation: organizing information for later stages of a case.

Supio’s product materials also describe integrations with case-management and document systems and an API for custom workflows. The exact systems supported, data-mapping requirements, implementation timeline, and availability of each connector should be confirmed during a buyer’s diligence process.

Why is Supio targeting personal-injury and mass-tort firms?

Personal-injury and mass-tort practices are attractive targets for specialized automation because those practices often handle high volumes of repetitive but consequential records. A single matter can contain extensive medical documentation, bills and liens, multiple providers, deposition transcripts, expert reports, discovery materials, and settlement-valuation work.

Mass-tort firms face an additional scaling challenge: similar workflows may need to be repeated across many claimants while preserving the differences that matter in each individual file. A tool that can structure records consistently may help a firm find facts faster and compare case information more systematically.

That specialization is both Supio’s differentiator and its limitation. A platform optimized for medical records, damages, plaintiff evidence, and demand packages may be more relevant to a personal-injury practice than a general chatbot. The same specialization does not make Supio an obvious choice for a criminal-defense, family-law, tax, transactional, or general corporate practice.

How is specialized plaintiff-law AI different from general legal AI?

Specialized plaintiff-law AI starts with a narrower workflow: turning case records into evidence and case-level analysis. General legal-AI products typically emphasize broader legal research, drafting, document work, or access to legal content across multiple practice areas.

Tool category Primary buyer question Where it may fit relative to Supio
Specialized plaintiff-law platform Can the system process medical and litigation records for injury and mass-tort matters? Closest category to Supio’s stated focus.
General legal-research AI Can the system find legal authorities and assist with broad legal research and drafting? More relevant when case-law and general legal-content workflows are the priority.
Practice-management software Can the system manage billing, intake, scheduling, client communication, and firm operations? Often a complementary infrastructure layer rather than a direct replacement for document intelligence.
Case-management software Can the system manage matters, workflows, collaboration, permissions, and reporting? May provide the system of record into which a specialized analysis tool connects.
Document-review or litigation-support tools Can the system review and organize large document collections for litigation? May overlap with portions of Supio’s analysis workflow but can serve broader litigation use cases.
In-house general-purpose AI workflow Can the firm build and maintain its own extraction, summarization, and drafting processes? May offer flexibility, but shifts model selection, workflow design, validation, security, and maintenance to the firm.

For comparison, Thomson Reuters CoCounsel and Lexis+ AI represent broader legal-research and drafting categories. Clio, Filevine, and Litify are more closely associated with practice-management or case-management infrastructure, while EvenUp is another plaintiff-law-focused comparison point. These products are not identical substitutes, so a meaningful evaluation should begin with the firm’s workflow rather than the vendors’ marketing labels.

Who founded Supio and who uses it?

Supio was founded in 2021 by Jerry Zhou and Kyle Lam. GeekWire reported that the founders previously worked at Microsoft and Avalara after co-founding a mobile-gaming business. Their Microsoft experience included work related to Office 365.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The founders’ technology backgrounds help explain the company’s emphasis on document systems and structured information, but the backgrounds are context rather than evidence that the product is accurate or effective.

Named customers in Supio’s funding coverage and announcement include Hughes & Coleman, Daniel Stark, Thomas Law Offices, Whitley Law, and TorHoerman Law. Supio’s announcement reportedly spells one customer as “Huges & Coleman,” while the firm’s known name and other coverage use “Hughes & Coleman”; the preferred spelling should be verified before publication.

GeekWire reported that Supio had about 100 employees at the time of the funding announcement. That headcount is historical and should not be treated as the company’s current employee count.

What results does Supio claim?

Supio’s reported traction combines company metrics, customer statements, and examples associated with individual law firms. Those claims are relevant to the funding story, but they are not independent performance benchmarks.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Claim Reported figure How to interpret it
Annual recurring-revenue growth since Series A Fourfold Company-reported growth; no revenue baseline or independent verification was provided in the reviewed sources.
Reported gain per case in one example 20%–30% Firm-reported result cited by Supio; the source does not establish that Supio alone caused the gain.
Thomas Law Offices annual case volume 62% increase Customer-reported result after adoption, according to Supio.
Case-preparation time Up to 75% reduction Company or customer marketing claim; the reviewed sources do not provide an independent benchmark.
Per-case savings $500–$1,000 Later Supio product-material claim; the calculation method and comparison baseline are not detailed in the dossier.
Hours recovered 437 hours across six cases in one example Specific firm example reported by Supio, not a universal expected result.
Verdict association $495 million Abbott Labs verdict Supio said it was involved in a case associated with the verdict; involvement does not prove that the software caused the result.

The distinction between funding, revenue, productivity, and legal outcomes matters. A $60 million investment shows that investors backed Supio’s growth opportunity. Fourfold ARR growth is a company-reported commercial metric. A faster chronology or larger case volume is an operational result. A settlement or verdict depends on many additional factors, including evidence, law, venue, attorney strategy, opposing parties, damages, and timing.

What does Supio’s human-verification model mean?

Supio says it combines specialized AI with human expert verification to address hallucinations and accuracy concerns in legal work. The company presents that hybrid approach as a distinction from fully automated systems.

The available sources do not establish who performs the verification, whether reviewers are lawyers, paralegals, medical specialists, or vendor employees, which outputs receive review, whether every result is checked, how disagreements are resolved, whether review changes pricing or turnaround time, or what audit trail is retained.

Those details are important because medical chronologies, damages calculations, contradiction flags, and litigation drafts carry different risks. A firm should ask for a written description of the review process and should not assume that the phrase “human verification” means every extracted fact or generated sentence has been independently checked.

How did Supio’s product evolve after the April 2025 financing?

By September 2025, Supio had expanded its public positioning beyond document analysis. The company announced a litigation-agent suite, a case-intake suite, drafting tools, deposition analysis, and CaseAware AI, alongside what it described as a “risk-free pricing model.” Those announcements represent later product positioning and should not be treated as features known at the time of the April 30, 2025 funding announcement.

In its September 2025 announcement, Supio also reported an accuracy rate of about 97%, described as at or above human-level accuracy, more than 27,000 cases processed, and over $1 billion in settlements supported. Supio’s September 18, 2025 announcement provides those figures, but the reviewed material does not disclose the test set, task definition, error categories, human baseline, or independent evaluator needed to assess the accuracy claim. “Settlements supported” also does not establish that Supio caused those settlements.

The product evolution suggests that Supio’s larger ambition is a case-level and firm-level operating layer, with AI agents handling more parts of intake, analysis, drafting, and preparation. Whether that broader approach creates value will depend on reliability, integration quality, review controls, and the firm’s willingness to centralize sensitive workflows with one vendor.

What are the main risks and failure modes?

AI errors in plaintiff litigation are not merely cosmetic. A missed date, misclassified bill, or unsupported statement can affect case valuation, negotiation strategy, client communication, or a court filing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Medical chronology errors: dates, providers, diagnoses, procedures, and causation may be misread, omitted, or presented without the ambiguity found in the original record.
  2. Incorrect damages calculations: bills, liens, duplicate invoices, write-offs, unrelated treatment, and other financial details may be categorized incorrectly.
  3. False contradiction flags: two statements may look inconsistent while actually describing different dates, injuries, or contexts.
  4. OCR and document-quality problems: scanned records, handwritten notes, poor faxes, tables, stamps, and redactions can reduce extraction quality.
  5. Confidentiality and privilege exposure: firms must examine retention, access controls, subprocessors, breach procedures, deletion rights, data residency, and client-consent requirements before uploading sensitive records.
  6. Integration gaps: a connector may not preserve every permission, metadata field, version history, or folder structure, creating duplication or access-control problems.
  7. Overreliance on generated drafts: demand letters, pleadings, summaries, and assessments can contain unsupported facts or inappropriate legal conclusions.
  8. Vendor concentration: putting intake, analytics, drafting, and institutional knowledge in one platform increases the importance of export, termination, and business-continuity terms.

Supio’s homepage currently claims SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA, PHIPA, and GDPR compliance and lists data centers in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada. Those are vendor claims, not a substitute for reviewing the underlying reports, contractual terms, subprocessors, and applicable professional-responsibility obligations. The firm should request current security documentation directly from Supio.

Is Supio a good fit for a law firm?

Supio may be a strong fit for a plaintiff-side personal-injury or mass-tort firm that processes large volumes of medical and litigation records, wants structured case analysis, and has the staff and procedures to validate high-stakes outputs.

Firm situation Likely fit Reason
High-volume personal-injury practice Potentially strong Medical records, bills, chronologies, demand work, and repeated workflows match Supio’s stated specialization.
Mass-tort practice Potentially strong Repeated claimant workflows and large document collections create a plausible automation opportunity.
General commercial or transactional firm Likely weak The platform is positioned around plaintiff litigation and medical-record-centered analysis.
Small practice with few documents Uncertain or weak Low volume may not justify implementation effort or custom pricing.
Firm seeking legal research and case-law retrieval Likely incomplete fit Supio’s stated center of gravity is case-record analysis rather than broad legal research.
Firm unwilling to use a third-party platform for sensitive data Poor fit Medical and litigation data require a confidentiality, security, and vendor-risk assessment.
Buyer requiring transparent self-serve pricing Potentially poor fit The reviewed sources provide no public dollar rate card and direct prospects toward a demo.

What should a firm ask before buying Supio?

A firm should treat a Supio demo as the beginning of diligence, not as proof that the platform is ready for unsupervised legal work. The following questions address the gaps that the public materials reviewed for this article do not resolve.

  • Pricing: Is pricing per user, per case, per document, by volume, or based on another model? What are the minimum commitment, contract length, implementation fees, and cancellation terms?
  • Human review: Which workflows receive human verification? Who performs the review, what standard is applied, and what record of the review is retained?
  • Accuracy: What test set, task definition, error taxonomy, baseline, and independent evaluation support any accuracy percentage?
  • Data handling: Where is data stored and processed? What are the retention, deletion, backup, encryption, access-control, and subprocessor policies?
  • Privilege and confidentiality: How does the contract address attorney-client privilege, work product, client consent, breach notification, and vendor access?
  • Integrations: Which case-management and document systems are supported today? Are permissions, metadata, version history, and audit logs preserved?
  • Exportability: Can the firm export original files, extracted data, generated work product, annotations, and audit records in a usable format after termination?
  • Workflow controls: Can attorneys require approval before a draft, calculation, or extracted fact is shared externally or used in a filing?
  • Implementation: How long does deployment take, who maps the firm’s workflows, and what training is included?
  • Liability: How does the contract allocate responsibility for inaccurate extraction, downtime, data loss, security incidents, or improper use of generated content?

What does the $60 million mean for Seattle’s legal-tech market?

Supio’s financing is significant because it backs a vertical approach to legal AI: build around the documents, terminology, economics, and repetitive decisions of a particular legal practice instead of starting with a general chatbot.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

The investment gives Supio resources to hire engineers and AI researchers, expand product coverage, and sell nationally. The company’s later move toward intake, litigation agents, drafting, deposition analysis, and CaseAware AI indicates an attempt to cover more of the plaintiff firm’s case lifecycle.

That strategy also raises the bar for execution. As Supio expands from document intelligence into case operations, buyers will need evidence that new features remain reviewable, interoperable, secure, and reliable under real-world document conditions. The funding provides the means to pursue that goal; it does not independently validate the outcome claims.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much funding has Supio raised?

Supio had raised $91 million in disclosed funding as of April 30, 2025, including its $60 million Series B and an earlier $25 million Series A. The $91 million figure should not be treated as the company’s lifetime total after that date without checking for later financing announcements.

Is Supio a general-purpose legal AI chatbot?

No. Supio is positioned primarily as a specialized legal-AI and document-intelligence platform for plaintiff-side personal-injury and mass-tort firms. Its stated workflows center on medical records, bills, liens, case economics, depositions, contradictions, demand drafting, and litigation preparation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does Supio publish pricing?

The reviewed sources do not provide a public dollar rate card or plan table. Supio directs prospects to request a demo, and the company later announced a risk-free pricing model without disclosing specific rates in the available material.

Is Supio’s 97% accuracy claim independently verified?

The reviewed sources do not provide enough methodology to independently evaluate Supio’s later claim of about 97% accuracy. A buyer should request the test set, task definition, baseline, error categories, and independent evaluation details before relying on the percentage.

Can Supio replace attorney review?

Supio should not be treated as a replacement for attorney review. Lawyers remain responsible for checking facts, timelines, calculations, citations, generated language, confidentiality controls, and the suitability of any AI-assisted work before using it in negotiations, client communications, or court filings.

The Bottom Line

Supio’s $60 million Series B supports a focused bet on specialized AI for plaintiff litigation. The company is most relevant to personal-injury and mass-tort firms with substantial medical-record volume and repetitive case workflows—not to every legal department. Its reported productivity and outcome figures are promising but company- or customer-reported, so buyers should validate accuracy, human-review procedures, security terms, integrations, pricing, and export rights before deployment.
