Short answer: The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 was announced on July 9, 2025, opened for U.S. preorders the same day, and went on sale in the U.S. on July 25, 2025. Its launch price started at $1,999.99. The Fold7’s headline upgrades are a larger 8-inch inner display, a wider 6.5-inch cover screen, a thinner 215g design, the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, and a 200MP main camera.
There are important compromises: the battery is still 4,400mAh, wired charging remains 25W, S Pen support is gone, the phone has only an IP48 rating rather than a dust-tight IP68 rating, and repairs can be expensive. As of August 9, 2026, Samsung’s U.S. purchase page lists the Fold7 at $1,999.99 to $2,499.99 but marks the configurations out of stock. Carrier, retailer, clearance, refurbished, and marketplace inventory may still be available, but buyers should compare the total price, warranty, model, and return policy with Samsung’s newer Fold generation.
Galaxy Z Fold7 release date and availability
Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold7 at Galaxy Unpacked in Brooklyn, New York, on July 9, 2025. U.S. preorders also began on July 9. The retail release followed on July 25, 2025.

Samsung’s U.S. purchase page still lists the Fold7, but as of August 9, 2026, all shown configurations are marked out of stock and the page points shoppers toward Samsung’s newer Fold generation. That does not necessarily mean every carrier or retailer has sold through its inventory. It does mean Samsung-direct availability should not be assumed.
If buying from a marketplace or third-party seller, check whether the phone is unlocked, carrier-locked, open-box, refurbished, or an imported international model. Confirm the exact model number, U.S. warranty eligibility, activation status, return window, and whether the price includes any required carrier activation.

Galaxy Z Fold7 price: launch MSRP versus current listings
The Fold7 launched in the United States at $1,999.99 for 256GB. Samsung offered three storage tiers, with 12GB of RAM in the 256GB and 512GB models and 16GB in the 1TB model.

| 1TB | 16GB | $2,419.99 | $2,499.99 |
The current figures are listed prices, not guaranteed transaction prices. Samsung’s direct page currently says the configurations are out of stock, so a shopper may encounter a different price—or no inventory—at a carrier or retailer.
Why the current prices are different
Samsung quietly increased the U.S. prices of the 512GB and 1TB versions by $80 in April 2026. The 256GB model did not change. Android Central reported the April price increase.
Samsung also temporarily discounted all three U.S. storage tiers by $200 in June 2026 ahead of the next Fold launch. That promotion brought the prices to $1,799.99, $1,999.99, and $2,299.99 respectively, but it was a temporary sale rather than a new permanent MSRP. Forbes covered that promotion.
Carrier installment pricing can make the phone appear cheaper because it spreads the cost over time or applies a trade-in credit. Compare the total amount paid, the required plan, the carrier lock, and the conditions that could cancel the credit. Clearance and refurbished Fold7 units can offer better value, but the warranty and replacement coverage matter more than they do with a conventional phone because foldable displays and hinges are costly to service.
Which storage version should you buy?
- 256GB: The sensible capacity for streaming-focused users who use cloud storage and do not keep a large offline game, photo, or video library.
- 512GB: The balanced choice for frequent photography, games, downloads, and long-term ownership.
- 1TB with 16GB RAM: Best for people who keep substantial local media, install large games, record a lot of high-resolution video, or want the maximum memory configuration. The 1TB version is not automatically faster because of storage; its performance-related advantage is the 16GB of RAM.
There is no microSD expansion listed in Samsung’s specifications, so choose the capacity you expect to need for the life of the phone.

Design and displays: the Fold7’s biggest upgrade
The Fold7 is substantially thinner and lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold6. It measures 8.9mm when folded and weighs 215g, compared with the Fold6’s 12.1mm folded thickness and 239g weight. That reduction makes the Fold7 more comfortable in a pocket and less cumbersome to use as a conventional phone.
The cover display also grew from 6.3 inches on the Fold6 to 6.5 inches and adopts a wider 21:9 format. The wider outer screen is easier to type on and feels less narrow for everyday apps. Open the phone and the inner display grows from 7.6 to 8.0 inches, providing more room for split-screen apps, documents, spreadsheets, editing tools, and games.

The inner panel remains close to square rather than adopting a conventional phone or tablet video shape. That is excellent for multitasking and reading, but 16:9 video can show substantial black bars. Some applications also do not use the foldable layout as effectively as Samsung’s own software.
Is the Fold7 crease gone?
No. The crease is less noticeable, not absent. Reviews describe it as wider and shallower than on earlier models, but it remains visible under many lighting conditions and can still be felt when a finger passes across the display. A photograph that appears crease-free usually reflects lighting, viewing angle, or image processing rather than a physically creaseless panel. Android Authority’s review discusses the crease and display trade-offs.

Samsung uses Advanced Armor Aluminum for the frame, Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 on the cover, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back. Those materials improve the exterior’s resistance to ordinary wear, but they do not make the flexible inner display equivalent to the glass panel in a conventional phone.
IP48: water-resistant, but not dustproof
IP48 should not be read as IP68. Samsung describes the rating as protection from solid particles larger than 1mm and testing for submersion in up to five feet of fresh water for up to 30 minutes. The first digit does not indicate a dust-tight seal against fine particles, sand, or sawdust.

Keep the Fold7 away from dusty workspaces, sand, and situations where grit could reach the hinge. See Samsung’s explanations of IP ratings and care for foldable devices.
Camera system: a major main-camera upgrade, not a complete overhaul
The Fold7’s rear camera array consists of:
- 200MP wide camera: The key camera upgrade, with more detail and additional cropping flexibility in good light.
- 12MP ultrawide camera: It now has autofocus, enabling macro photography as well as wider scenes.
- 10MP telephoto camera: 3× optical zoom, with Samsung’s advertised 2× optical-quality zoom and up to 30× Space Zoom.
The 200MP main camera brings the Fold7 closer to Samsung’s conventional flagship phones for everyday photography. It is especially useful when the subject is distant enough that cropping a high-resolution image is preferable to switching cameras. The ultrawide’s autofocus is also a practical improvement for close-up subjects.
However, this is not an across-the-board camera-system upgrade. The telephoto remains a 10MP 3× unit, so buyers who prioritize long-range zoom should compare it with Samsung’s largest conventional camera phone rather than assuming the Fold7 has the company’s most versatile camera hardware. Tom’s Guide’s testing and Engadget’s review provide independent camera context.
The cover and inner cameras are both 10MP. Samsung replaced the Fold6’s under-display inner selfie camera with a visible punch-hole camera. The cutout is easier to see, but the conventional camera approach improves image quality compared with hiding the camera under the flexible display.
Performance and software
Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy performance
The Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy makes the Fold7 a high-end phone for gaming, multitasking, photo editing, and DeX. In Tom’s Guide testing, it scored 3,052 in Geekbench single-core and 9,735 in multi-core, roughly matching the Galaxy S25 Ultra in that test.
Short-duration performance is excellent, but the thin chassis has less thermal headroom than a thicker gaming phone. Android Authority observed a gradual GPU performance decline during repeated stress testing. In normal use, that means the Fold7 is fast; under prolonged, demanding gaming or rendering workloads, performance can eventually moderate as the phone manages heat.
The 1TB model’s 16GB of RAM can help heavy multitasking and large local workloads. It is not a reason for ordinary users to pay more solely for speed: the 256GB and 512GB versions already use 12GB of RAM and the same processor.
Android 16, One UI 8, DeX, and Galaxy AI
The Fold7 launched with Android 16 and One UI 8. Samsung’s foldable interface supports two-app multitasking, flexible app layouts, drag-and-drop workflows, and larger previews on the inner display. Samsung DeX is also supported, allowing the phone to drive a desktop-style interface with a compatible display and accessories.

Samsung promises seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates from the initial global launch. Update timing can vary by country, carrier, and model, so this should not be interpreted as a guarantee of a specific final Android version in every market. Samsung’s firmware records show Android 16 security updates for the SM-F966B model, but that is an international model reference and does not establish identical timing for every U.S. carrier version. Samsung’s software-support information explains the commitment.
Galaxy AI availability is more complicated than a simple feature checklist. Samsung’s launch materials said Galaxy AI features were free through the end of 2025. Features can require a Samsung account, Google account, internet access, or compatible apps, and availability can vary by country, language, carrier, device model, and software version. Do not assume every AI feature is permanently free in 2026; check Samsung’s current terms before buying specifically for AI capabilities.
Battery life and charging
The Fold7 retains the Fold6’s 4,400mAh typical battery capacity. That is the clearest example of a specification that did not improve despite the redesign. Wired charging also remains limited to 25W, and the box does not include a charger.
Battery claim versus independent testing:
- Samsung advertises up to 24 hours of video playback. This is a manufacturer test claim, not a universal mixed-use result.
- Tom’s Guide recorded approximately 10 hours and 44 minutes on average in a 5G web-browsing test.
- Engadget recorded 20 hours and 50 minutes using the inner display and 26 hours and 22 minutes using the outer display in a local-video rundown test.
These results are not contradictory: web browsing over 5G, local video playback, display size, brightness, network conditions, and app activity place different demands on the battery. The practical conclusion is that the Fold7 can generally last a working day with moderate use, but it is not a class leader for demanding web use or heavy inner-screen workloads.

Tom’s Guide measured 54% charge after 30 minutes using the phone’s 25W wired charging. Wireless PowerShare is available for charging compatible accessories.
Galaxy Z Fold7 versus Galaxy Z Fold6
The Fold7 is a major physical redesign, but it is not a pure upgrade in every category.
| Feature | Galaxy Z Fold7 | Galaxy Z Fold6 | Practical meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inner display | 8.0 inches | 7.6 inches | More space for multitasking and documents. |
| Cover display | 6.5 inches, wider 21:9 format | 6.3 inches | More comfortable as a closed phone. |
| Folded thickness | 8.9mm | 12.1mm | A much slimmer pocket profile. |
| Weight | 215g | 239g | 24g lighter. |
| Processor | Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy | Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy | Higher peak performance and newer platform. |
| Main rear camera | 200MP wide | 50MP wide | More detail and cropping flexibility on the main camera. |
| Inner selfie camera | 10MP punch-hole | Under-display camera | More visible, but generally better image quality. |
| 1TB memory configuration | 16GB RAM | Fold7 configuration shown here | More useful for demanding multitasking than ordinary use. |
| S Pen | Not supported | Supported | A significant loss for note-taking and drawing users. |
| Battery | 4,400mAh | 4,400mAh | No capacity increase. |
| Wired charging | 25W | 25W | No charging-speed improvement. |
| Telephoto | 10MP, 3× optical | 10MP, 3× optical | Long-range camera hardware is essentially unchanged. |
| Water and particle rating | IP48 | IP48 | No improvement to the basic protection rating. |
The strongest reason to upgrade from a Fold6 is not one isolated benchmark. It is the combination of a lighter body, far slimmer folded profile, wider cover screen, larger inner display, newer processor, and substantially improved main camera. The strongest reasons to stay with the Fold6 are S Pen support, a potentially lower resale or replacement cost, and the fact that the Fold7 does not improve battery capacity, charging, telephoto hardware, or IP rating.
Does the Galaxy Z Fold7 support the S Pen?
No. Samsung’s specification sheet explicitly lists S Pen support as not supported. The Fold7 lacks the digitizer layer required for the Fold-series S Pen, so an ordinary capacitive stylus is not an equivalent substitute.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThis is a major drawback for people who use a Fold for handwritten notes, drawing, annotations, student work, or precision productivity. It is also a functional regression from the Fold6, not merely a missing accessory. If stylus input is central to your workflow, do not buy the Fold7 expecting a future software update to add support.
Can the Fold7 replace a tablet?
For some users, the 8-inch inner display can replace carrying a small tablet. It is well suited to:
Also popular on Amazon
- A premium foldable smartphone featuring an 8.0" Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display, 6.5" cover display, 200MP main camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, 4,400mAh battery, and a slim 215g design.
- Two-app multitasking.
- Spreadsheets, email, and documents.
- Reading books, websites, and PDFs.
- Photo and video editing.
- Games with a larger touch surface.
- Samsung DeX productivity.
- Large camera and media previews.
It is not a universal tablet replacement. The inner display’s near-square shape can produce large black bars around 16:9 video, and some apps still use foldable layouts poorly. The Fold7 also costs enough that a conventional flagship phone paired with a separate tablet may be the better value for buyers who do not need a device that folds.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Durability, repairability, and ownership risks
Samsung says the Fold7 was tested and verified for at least 200,000 folds, which it describes as approximately 10 years based on average consumer folding behavior. This is a controlled durability claim, not a guarantee against drops, hinge contamination, pressure damage, screen defects, or failure of an individual unit. Independent durability coverage provides additional context.
The practical care rules are more important than the fold-count headline:
- Check that cards, coins, keys, or debris are not between the screens before closing the phone.
- Never fold the phone backward or use excessive force.
- Keep fingernails and sharp objects away from the inner display.
- Do not remove the pre-installed inner screen protector.
- Gently clean the hinge with a soft, dry cloth; do not force debris into it.
- Do not treat IP48 as protection from beaches, pools, fine dust, or sand.
Repair is another reason to budget carefully. Reporting based on iFixit-related findings describes the Fold7 as difficult to repair because of glued batteries, fragile inner components, and a screen that is difficult to replace. That does not mean every Fold7 will fail, but it does make accidental damage and out-of-warranty ownership materially more expensive than with many conventional phones. Android Authority’s repairability report explains the concerns.
Before buying, price Samsung Care+ or comparable insurance and check the deductible, screen and hinge coverage, replacement process, and exclusions. For a used or imported phone, verify that the service plan and warranty apply to the exact model in the United States.
Samsung also warns that magnets and magnetic accessories can affect cards and some medical devices. A case can improve drop protection, but it may add bulk or interfere with wireless charging and hinge access, so choose one designed specifically for the Fold7.

Is the Galaxy Z Fold7 worth buying in 2026?
Buy the Fold7 if:
- You want a book-style foldable that is considerably thinner and lighter than earlier Galaxy Folds.
- You will regularly use the 8-inch inner screen for documents, multitasking, games, reading, or editing.
- You value Samsung’s foldable software, One UI, and DeX.
- You want a 200MP main camera in a foldable phone.
- You can find a legitimate unit substantially below Samsung’s $1,999.99-and-up listed prices.
- You do not need an S Pen.
Skip it or wait if:
- You are paying close to the current $2,000 to $2,500 Samsung list prices while Samsung’s newer Fold generation is available.
- You need S Pen support for notes, art, school, or work.
- You prioritize heavy-use battery life or fast charging.
- You work around fine dust, sand, sawdust, or other particles.
- You expect the camera system to match Samsung’s most capable conventional flagship, especially for long-range zoom.
- You want easy DIY repair, a low-cost screen replacement, or lower ownership risk.
The Fold7 makes the most sense in 2026 when its price is clearly below the newer Fold or when its thinner, lighter design is specifically what you want. If the price gap is small, compare the newer model directly rather than buying the older phone at its original premium. If you mainly want long battery life, maximum zoom, strong dust protection, or inexpensive repairs, a conventional flagship is likely the safer purchase.
Galaxy Z Fold7: the bottom line
The Galaxy Z Fold7 is Samsung’s most successful refinement of the book-style Fold design in the areas people notice every day: it is thinner, lighter, easier to use when closed, more spacious when open, faster, and much better with its main camera. Those are meaningful improvements over the Fold6.
It is also an expensive and specialized phone. The battery remains 4,400mAh, charging remains 25W, the telephoto camera is still a modest 10MP 3× unit, the crease remains visible, S Pen support has disappeared, and IP48 is not dustproof. With Samsung’s U.S. store listing the phone out of stock as of August 9, 2026, buy only after checking the actual seller price, warranty, condition, and insurance options. A discounted, properly warranted Fold7 can still be compelling; a near-MSRP unit is much harder to recommend over Samsung’s newer Fold or a conventional flagship.

How much did the Galaxy Z Fold7 cost at launch?
The U.S. launch MSRP was $1,999.99 for 256GB, $2,119.99 for 512GB, and $2,419.99 for 1TB. The 256GB and 512GB versions had 12GB of RAM; the 1TB version had 16GB.
How much is the Galaxy Z Fold7 now?
As of August 9, 2026, Samsung’s U.S. purchase page listed the phone at $1,999.99 for 256GB, $2,199.99 for 512GB, and $2,499.99 for 1TB. Samsung marked the listed configurations out of stock, so actual retailer and carrier prices may differ.
Is the Galaxy Z Fold7 still available?
Samsung’s direct U.S. page currently marks the listed Fold7 configurations out of stock, but carrier, retailer, clearance, refurbished, or marketplace inventory may remain. Verify whether a third-party unit is unlocked, covered by a U.S. warranty, and eligible for returns.
Does the Galaxy Z Fold7 support the S Pen?
No. Samsung lists S Pen support as not supported, and the Fold7 lacks the digitizer required for the Fold-series S Pen. A generic capacitive stylus does not provide equivalent functionality.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Is the Galaxy Z Fold7 waterproof or dustproof?
It is water-resistant, not waterproof. Its IP48 rating covers particles larger than 1mm and controlled freshwater submersion, but it is not dust-tight like an IP68 device. Samsung advises against beach and pool use, and water resistance can decline with wear or damage.
How long does the Fold7 battery last?
Battery life depends heavily on the display, brightness, network, and workload. Samsung claims up to 24 hours of video playback. Independent tests ranged from about 10 hours 44 minutes in a 5G web-browsing test to more than 20 hours in local-video tests, so moderate users can generally expect a working day rather than a guaranteed result.
Does the Galaxy Z Fold7 include a charger?
No. The box includes the phone, a USB-C data cable, and a SIM-ejection pin. The charger is sold separately.
Does the Fold7 have a microSD card slot?
No microSD expansion is listed in Samsung’s specifications. Choose 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB based on how much local media, gaming content, and video you expect to keep.
Is the inner crease visible on the Galaxy Z Fold7?
Yes. The crease is less noticeable and shallower than on earlier Fold models, but it is still visible in many conditions and can be felt. Claims that the display is completely creaseless are inaccurate.
How many software updates will the Galaxy Z Fold7 receive?
Samsung promises seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates from the initial global launch. Delivery timing can vary by market, carrier, and model, and Samsung has not used that promise to guarantee one specific final Android version for every region.
Is the Galaxy Z Fold7 worth buying after the newer Fold launched?
It can be worth buying at a substantial discount with a strong warranty, especially if you value its thin and light design and do not need an S Pen. At or near Samsung’s current listed prices, compare it carefully with the newer Fold and with conventional flagship phones.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Buy the Galaxy Z Fold7 in 2026 only when the price is meaningfully below its $1,999.99 launch starting point or when its unusually thin, light foldable design is your priority. It is a strong productivity and multitasking phone, but the 25W charging, unchanged 4,400mAh battery, missing S Pen, limited IP48 rating, modest telephoto, and repair risk make a near-full-price purchase difficult to justify.
