Our verdict on Akaunting
Akaunting is web-based bookkeeping and accounting software for small businesses, freelancers, and accountants. It covers customer invoicing, online payments, expense and bill tracking, bank account management, transaction reconciliation, financial reporting, recurring transactions, customer and vendor management, inventory, receipt scanning, client portals, and user permissions. The product is available as a free self-hosted edition and as paid cloud plans, making it relevant for teams that want open-source deployment or a managed web service.
Pricing is split between self-hosted and cloud options. The self-hosted Standard plan is free, while paid self-hosted plans include annual and lifetime options. Cloud starts with Standard Cloud at $12 per month monthly or $8 per month billed annually, including 1 company, 1 user plus 1 accountant, 1,000 invoices, 4 apps, and ticket support. Premium Cloud costs $36 monthly or $24 annually and adds capacity for 10 companies, 10 users, and 10,000 invoices, along with 10 apps, double-entry, and bank feeds. Elite Cloud costs $84 monthly or $56 annually, with 30 companies, 30 users, 30,000 invoices, 30 apps, estimates, and payroll. Ultimate Cloud costs $218 monthly or $145 annually and includes unlimited companies, users, and invoices, all apps, budgeting, and sales and purchase orders.
Akaunting’s breadth is its main advantage. Integrations include PayPal, Slack, HubSpot, WooCommerce, Shopify, Stripe, Foodics, and Vonage, while add-on apps extend capabilities such as inventory, payroll, projects, CRM, bank feeds, and receipt scanning. It suits businesses that need more than invoicing and want permissions, portals, recurring billing, and inventory in one system. However, automated reconciliation is not available, and mobile platforms are web-only. Choose Akaunting for open-source deployment or broad bookkeeping coverage; consider another product if automated reconciliation or dedicated mobile platforms are essential.
